Finding Like-minded People Early on in Your Career Journey

Early on in your career, you need to network and seek out people who share your mindset.

When you're just starting out on your chosen career path, it's important to find people who think along similar lines to you. Of course, you also want to find people who don't share your world view because that's how horizons are broadened. But like-minded individuals that are on your wavelength can prove great allies and assets.

Like-minded individuals understand where the other person is coming from, which means there's less chance of falling out when a decision needs to be made. Finding people who share your values, work ethic and ambitions can really help boost your chances of success, plus it doesn't always have to be 'business' – simply feeling you've made a friend and connected with someone makes your working life more enjoyable.

Don't feel you're limited to your own age group, either. Yes, you might be more likely to 'click' with someone of a similar age, but you can also get the same feeling from older colleagues. They bring the added advantage of experience. Never disregard any relationship until you've got to know someone better.

You can even be like-minded with your boss, and many people are. There is, after all, a reason they appointed you to the role in the first place. They must have seen your potential or something of themselves in you, so don't just regard them as a figure of authority, even if you are just starting out in the world of work.

Finding like-minded people can really help you. They understand your ambitions, and when you feel that connection, you build a mutual support network.
