More and more employers look for candidates that know more than one language. This may leave those who don't a little apprehensive. But, is this an essential ability for all candidates to have?

There are definitely some strong points to support why it is essential. The first being this ability aids in bridging the gaps in understanding and communication. Employees who are multilingual can improve the relationship with customers because communication will be better and understanding between both parties will be clearer.

They are also a great asset if you're looking to venture into new target markets or countries. They can provide support in ensuring there is a proper line of communication between your target market and your company.

These individuals are also able to provide better in-house support. Having the knowledge on different languages gives them the ability to interpret, translate, proofread official documentations ensuring they are grammatically and factually accurate. This allows companies to save cost and time because they do not need to outsource talents to fulfil this responsibility.

However, not all roles in your company will have the need for communication in different languages. There are candidates who may lack in the multilingual department but are able to take on tasks that are far more complex and are in need of the right talent.

There is no right or wrong answer here, there is just the need to understand what roles your company needs filled and who can do it best. As much as having someone who is multilingual is beneficial, having someone who isn't multilingual but can get the job done better is crucial.
