How to Work Efficiently in a Team

Regardless of how big or small a team is, it only works well if it's leader works well. The secret to accomplishing team goalsl lie in a few common tactics.

The most important aspect is proper communication. This is key in any given situation. If communication is bad, everyone will be doing their own thing and the task may not be completed to the best possible quality. Be very clear in the desired end goals, map out plans to guide the process, ensure that everyone is on the same page and is absolutely certain of what is needed from them.

The other important thing to remember is to delegate the responsibilities accordingly. As a leader you already know that you can't handle everything. Divide the work properly, follow the plans you've made and utilise your teams talents to take on different tasks.

Delegating becomes so much easier when you know the strengths and weaknesses of your team. The better you know them the easier it becomes for you to assign the right member to a task. This way, if you pair members for a task you'll be able to know where one person lacks skills that the other can make up for – a simple mixing and matching of strengths and weaknesses.

Don't be afraid to get your hands dirty. Set a good example for your team by taking on tasks and don't just push everything to them to get done. There may be many small tasks that can deter your team from getting the important ones done, take the responsibility and get those tasks done yourself. This gives your team time to fully focus on what's important.

Different leaders have different styles, but the centre of every team's success relies heavily on how well the leader leads them.
