How to Develop Innovative Thinking Skills

Harnessing the power of innovative thinking is something that you do on a daily basis, you just don't realise. It's doing something old in a new way.

Innovative thinking provides new approaches to an existing problem, one that is more efficient and usually a better quality. The better you do, the more confident you become, the more work you are willing to take on. It's a cycle that helps you increase your skills, aiding in your career development.

How can you develop it?

Make sure to understand the problems you are aiming to solve. Don't dive in without being absolutely certain that your solution is relevant to your goals.

When faced with challenges, turn them into a set of questions that you can work on one by one. Let these questions lead you to the answer(s) that you need in order to move forward.

Once you've got the questions out of the way, you can start coming up with ideas as to how you're going to solve the issue. Get the opinions or inputs of others to generate better ideas.

Categorize the ideas from most to least relevant and tick off what isn't useful. When you're done you'll be left with the best ideas that have the greatest chance of producing the finest results.

With your best ideas in hand you can start to execute them. Tweak things to better fit the problem you're trying to solve, but with the ideas already fine-tuned you'll be able to get around the hurdles with ease.

There is no right or wrong in innovative thinking there is only learning and developing as you progress. That's the best form of learning – putting what you've learnt into practise.
